We’re kicking off our #GirlBoss series with one of our own! Meet Haley MacCosham. Currently an Economics/Communications major at McGill, not only is she our new intern on the block, but she’s also got killer style and an entrepreneurial side. Haley, along with her sister, Julia MacCosham, curate their unique thrifted finds to make Badlands Vintage.
When did you start vintage shopping?
I went to a private high school where uniforms were mandatory, so I didn't do much shopping at the time. After starting university, I loved being able to develop my own style but I noticed that I would end up wearing similar, if not identical, items to everyone else. I turned to thrifting for a more unique and fun vintage style.
How was Badlands born?
I started selling a few things that I no longer wore online, and I was getting great feedback. Coming across of lot of pieces that I knew others would love, I began buying vintage for re-sale. Managing accounts on Etsy, Ebay and Depop was a distraction, so in April my sister and I launched the official Badlands Vintage online shop.
What are the best cities for vintage shopping?
Most of our pieces come from Montreal and Vancouver, but we love to shop while traveling. Other cities that have stood out have been New York, San Francisco, Dublin and London.
What are staples that you are always on the lookout for?
We definitely always pick up graphic tees and band tees, and we love to keep an eye out for some good Levis or Calvin Klein denim. For the summer, we’re super into the athleisure trend, so we’re on the lookout for Tommy Hilfiger, Champion and Kappa selections.
Items that you can never have enough of?
I'm addicted to accessories. I’m really into antique, chunky silver jewelry, retro aviators and silver studded western belts (I buy way too many belts! Oops!).
What do you love about Montreal?
People are very open-minded. Style-wise, it’s a relaxed vibe where there’s no pressure to look a certain way.
What would we find you doing on a Friday night?
I’d honestly be at home watching the latest Netflix show with my roommate and baking vegan desserts. I’m not even vegan, but I do love vegan food haha.
What are your favorite Min&Mia pieces?
I am obsessed with the Ronda Bracelet, in silver of course. I also really like the Bound Ring for layering, and I think the Willow Hoop Earrings and Saint Velvet Choker are great pieces for the summer.
